About the Retreat:
Roots to Rise Retreat provides an invitation for intentional movement which is crafted specifically to reconnect you to your strength and your rhythm in supportive rest.
This retreat invites presence and integration. Karoline and Tara will guide you through two movement practices a day, blending strength-focused practices as well as evening groundful mindful practices that both root your energy and restore your nervous system.
Over six days and five nights, we invite you to connect with the natures rhythms of rising and rooting with the sun, deepening your relationship to movement practices + explore in two workshops on how this practice of root to rise extends beyond the retreat.
These moments are met with shared meals, open time to rest, explore La Joya’s restorative amenities of hot tub soak, sauna or cold plunge, or take a wander into Sayulita. We create stories, laughter, and shared moments that remind us that growth is never done in isolation, healing isn’t performative and that together — the personal becomes collective.
What You Will Experience:
The 6-day, 5-night retreat is designed to give your body, mind, and nervous system the time and space to fully relax, integrate, and reset. Research in neuroscience and psychophysiology suggests that it takes several days for the nervous system to shift into a state of deep rest and integration in a new environment — for your body to release habitual tension, for your mind to settle, and for you to feel fully present.
2 classes per day of strength-focused movement and grounding, mindful movement sessions in the evening to incorporate retreat themes.
A free day during retreat to design however you would like – take an adventure into Sayulita, lounge around the La Joya retreat center, or embark on an off site adventure.
Two optional workshops will be offered during the retreat, exploring the theme of “Root to Rise.” These sessions are designed to provide practical tools and reflective practices so you can take the benefits of the retreat with you.
Meals will be shared in the community for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We break bread and build bonds in these times.
La Joya offers an array of spaces to support your restoration, including aromatic steam, sauna, cold plunge, and saltwater pool, all designed to support your nervous system, enhance circulation, release tension, and invite deep relaxation.

About the Facilitators:
Karoline Wiens
Karoline believes strength is a doorway, a way back home to the body, to breath, and to the quiet resilience that already lives within us.
For the past seven years, she has guided students through movement experiences that blend mindful strength training with intentional flow. As a certified personal trainer and yoga instructor, Karoline approaches the body with both reverence and challenge, honoring its wisdom while inviting it to expand. Having trained and certified teachers in a strength-focused, yoga-inspired Sculpt modality, her background in corporate people development deeply informs her intuitive and responsive approach to leadership in the room.
Karoline recognizes that we arrive on the mat as a different version of ourselves each day. Energy shifts. Capacity changes. Rather than prescribing intensity, she guides students toward their own honest edge, where growth feels steady, self-led, and sustainable.
Her teaching lives at the intersection of power and presence. Each class is intentionally sequenced and rhythmically driven, with music woven thoughtfully throughout. Her playlists are curated to sharpen focus, elevate energy, and shift your internal state as powerfully as the movement itself. Effort and awareness move together.
Karoline is deeply committed to creating spaces where strength feels accessible and embodied, not performative. She believes that when we train the body with intention, we simultaneously cultivate steadiness of mind, clarity of spirit, and trust in our own capacity.
In this retreat, Karoline will guide dynamic, strength-focused sessions designed to ground your energy while awakening your inner fire. Together, we’ll explore what it means to rise through strength, to feel rooted in who you are while expanding into who you are becoming.
Picture sunrise movement, music that carries you, laughter between sets, and the kind of sweat that feels like renewal. Karoline can’t wait to share sunshine, sea air, and strong moments together in Sayulita.
Tara Burke
Tara believes the most meaningful connections bloom in shared movement and the quiet beauty of small moments.
For over 15 years, Tara has taught yoga with a deep focus on alignment — guiding us back home to ourselves. With RYT-500 experience as well as a lead facilitator for 200-YTT training since 2024, Tara believes that rituals within routine evolve slowly, shaped by both graceful failures and the daily devotion of arriving on the mat.
Tara leans into the gift of supporting others stepping into their innate wisdom of their own inner teacher, and leans into the notion to create honest + humbled offerings on and off the mat.
An experienced teacher in facilitation of yoga dharma talks, ritual conversations that weave storytelling + personal mythos, and has spent the past decade deeply committed to offering the conversation of how we make our magick easy in both practical and accessible ways that don’t perpetuate the doing more and needing more being well.
In this retreat and in Tara’s teaching, she works to honor the whole person, on and off the mat and will providing ritual practices to incorporate into your routine.
She understands that everyone finds themselves differently, which is why Tara leads with curiosity, offers tangible tools for ease and expansion, and keeps humor and play at the heart of the practice.
Picture Tara, coffee in hand, D’Angelo playing softly, leaning into the truth that peace is power in the present moment.
Tara can’t wait to stargaze, swim, and share full, joyful meals together in Sayulita.
